Travis Scott – ASTROWORLD

Travis Scott’s 3rd studio album released in August of 2018. Highly produced by Travis Scott, Mike Dean, Wondagirl, Murda Beatz, Tay-Keith, and more! 17 songs, 58 minutes and 42 seconds. Astroworld was a carnival stop in Houston, Travis Scott’s hometown, that was torn down in 2005. Travis wanted to bring the amusement park vibe back to the kids. That is exactly what he did.

    STARGAZING 10/10

Great production for the intro song. Produced by Travis, Allen Ritter, Mike Dean, 30 Roc, Bkorn, BWheezy, & Sonny Digital. The first beat has a really good bounce. Gives the listener a true atmospheric vibe, and the adlibs also create a lot of uniqueness to this song. Halfway through the song, Travis gives the kids their carnival. It almost feels like you are riding a roller coaster while the second beat begins to develop. Then the second beat hits, a very catchy pattern of drums which gives the listener something to grasp onto. Travis often used this song as an intro to the concerts of his Astroworld tour when the album came out.

    CAROUSEL 8.5/10

Pretty good second song. It is hard to match Stargazing but Travis Scott and the team do a good job. Produced by Mike Dean, Rogét Chahayed & Hit-Boy, we have a pretty good song. Travis’ first verse is very catchy and bouncy, Travis’ rapping style is very psychedelic with his auto-tune and lyrics. Then we get a surprise feature from Frank Ocean and his angelic-like vocals. Travis did his job, and Frank Ocean did his job, but the song just doesn’t have anything to give this song an over-the-top rating.

    SICKO MODE 10/10

My personal favorite from this album. Produced by MD Beatz, CuBeatz, Tay Keith, Rogét Chahayed, OZ & Mike Dean. Right off the bat, we get another carnival-type feeling with the trumpets. It feels like you’re at a circus at a carnival, a very catchy sound. The listener gets a huge gift in a feature with Drake right off the bat and from there it’s history. Tay Keith does his job on the third beat and gets a crazy bounce for Drake and Travis to go off on.

    R.I.P. SCREW 9.7/10

Really good song. Travis continues with the psychedelic feeling and Swae Lee has a great feature. Another great beat from Mike Dean and Travis himself. A super chill, but catchy bounce to the beat. Travis and Swae Lee do not miss together. The adlibs help this song get over the edge.

STOP TRYING TO BE GOD 9.9/10

Absolutely a great job from Travis and the team here. One of Travis’ best songs. From the James Blake vocals, to the Kid Cudi verse this song has it all. The background noise, the humming from Travis, this song has me floating. Super unique production from Travis, Mike, and Stevie Wonder.

    NO BYSTANDARDS 9.3/10

This song is meant for the mosh-pits at rolling loud. The snippets of this song make it go 10x harder too. Juice Wrld’s hook is so catchy, and Travis rapping is just unbeatable. I can see why Travis continues to work with Wondagurl and Mike Dean when they give him beats like this. Sheck Wes also makes his debut on the album.

    SKELETONS 10/10

This song is so underrated. Tame Impala and Pharrell Williams do a great job on the production of this beat. Travis auto tune is at peak performance here, The Weeknd doesn’t miss. When you put those two together you have a hit song! These two need more songs together!

    WAKE UP 9.7/10

Wake up!!! Travis and The Weeknd go back to back with two bangers. The guitar is so catchy and unique it is easy to fall in love with the song. Produced by John Mayer, Ging, and more. They do a great job on this song. Travis rapping in his talking voice is severely underrated. He is known for his autotune voice (which he does a great job of in this song) but he really has best of both worlds.

    5% TNT 8.9/10

Produced by Mike Dean we get a pretty good song here. At the beginning of the song we get almost a halloween vibe of a song. Travis starts off rapping slow, and then gets into his immaculate flow where it feels like he will never stop. Great production on the outro! Makes me feel like I’m ascending into heaven.

    NC-17 8.3/10

I do not know how to rate this song. This is the one song in Travis’ discography that I do not like that much. I don’t know if it is the beat or the 21 savage verse but I just don’t really mess with it as much as I feel as I should. Mike Dean and Allen Ritter do a good job though. Props to them for getting another song on the album. I think the beat is really good, but Travis and 21’s vocals could have been better in my opinion.

    ASTROTHUNEDER 10/10

This song is way too short. Vegan, John Mayer, Travis, and more did an excellent job with the production on this beat. Travis vocals and rapping style matched this beat perfectly. Only thing I can say is that I wish there was more to it!

    YOSEMITE 9.3/10

June the Genius, Turbo, RamyOnTheBeat, and more did a really good job with the production of this beat. The guitar is super catchy and I think Travis picked the features very well, especially Gunna. Gunna’s flow is immaculate and it always has been. NAV gets a super short feature but I think it is perfect for the song, if it was any longer I think it would have gotten old.

    CAN’T SAY 10/10

Mike Dean and WondaGurl do another amazing job on this production. Travis and Don Delivers vocals are angelic. The bounce on the beat is super catchy and I love when Don Toliver gets a chance to be himself and does a great job on the second verse. Great song.

    WHO? WHAT! 9.0/10

Produced by Ging, Cargo, and 30 Roc. Travis goes insane with his flow on this beat. We even get a couple surprises in Quavo and Takeoff who do their fair share too. Quavo’s ad-libs will always be S tier and it really adds depth to the song.

    BUTTERFLY EFFECT 9.3/10

This song is super good. This was the lead single to the album. Produced by Murda Beatz and Felix Leone. Super catchy beat and just an overall great vibe from Travis. You get a great taste of the ASTROWORLD era ad-libs on this song.

    HOUSTONFORNICATION 9.8/10

Personally I love this song, I think it is one of Travis’ best. Produced by Sevn Thomas & Wallis Lane the beat is crazy and Travis does his thing. The beat leaves enough for Travis to have his flow where he goes into a different mode, especially on the second verse.

    COFFEE BEAN 8.6/10

Pretty good song but it just dosen’t have anything that goes off the charts to give it a better rating. I think it is a really good song, but not the best closing song of a really good album. Mike and Travis do their job though.
