Kanye West – MBDTF

Kanye West’s 5th studio album. One of the most anticipated albums from Kanye following the Taylor Swift incident, Kanye had something to prove. He did just that with a cherry on top for his listeners. Kanye produced most of this album on an island by himself and would fly people in and out to help him. This album is also very heavily Mike Dean influenced.

Dark Fantasy 8.5/10

The intro to this album is pretty good. Produced by Kanye, Mike Dean, Jeff Bhasker, and more the song is simple enough for Kanye to give us his Kanye flow. We also get a Kanye classic in the choir and the piano. Simple production, but it gives Kanye space to do his thing.

Gorgeous 9.1/10

Kanye West and Mike Dean are just doing their thing. Kid Cudi has a great hook and verse and Kanye rapping is very catchy as usual. Raekwon also has a verse on the outro of the song which leads us into the next song. Another simple sound but something unique that has never been heard before. Kanye is always changing the game.

POWER 9.9/10

I love this song. Kanye, Mike, Jeff, Andrew Dawson and S1 do an excellent job with the production. The crowd chants throughout the song was something so unique at the time and it has brought a new sound to rap, especially in Kanye’s game. Personally, I think the third verse of this song is excellent and really gets me going during a workout. About the outro… I think it is a beautiful outro I just wish that it would have been split into two different songs, other than that this song is a masterpiece.

All Of The Lights (Interlude)

I wish this was how POWER was set up. Have the outro be a separate song. Oh well. The violin is beautiful, well done Kanye and Mike.

All Of The Lights 10/10

This song is excellent!! Kanye and Jeff Bhasker do an outstanding job with the production on this song. Rhiannas hook is beautiful and Kanye’s flow is unmatched. Enough said.

Monster 8.2/10

Monster is produced by Mike Dean, Kanye and Plain Pat. I think this beat is really good and has a solid bounce all the way throughout the song. Jay-Z and RIck Ross also pop off on the feature here. Bon Iver and Nicki Minaj have verses as well and they do their part, but at the end of the day this is Yeezes game.

So Appalled 9.2/10

This is one song that gets forgotten on MBDTF. Another song produced by Kanye and Mike Dean but we also get No I.D. on the beat as well. The song is a little slower and has more of the old school Hip Hop type bounce. Jay-Z and Pusha T have excellent features. Underrated song.

Devil In a New Dress 10/10

Heavenly song. Bink! and Mike Dean might have produced one of the best beats of all time in music history. Not even joking. Kanye, Rick Ross and the rest of the team. Perfect.

Runaway 10/10

This might be the best back to back songs in music history. Have I mentioned Kanye making history? Another banger from Kanye and Mike Dean, but this time we get Jeff and Emile Haynie on the beat as well. The piano is so recognizable and beautiful that the song is almost unskippable. I can’t even describe this song, just give it a listen. Kanye this is one of the best songs I have ever heard, thank you.

Hell Of A Life 5.9/10

Produced by Kanye, Mike Caren, No I.D. and Mike Dean we get another super unique song. In my opinion it is not as good as anything else from this album. I think the beat is something new but clearly it didn’t stick around for long. Nevertheless Kanye’s flow is pretty good on his verses. Just not a replayable song for me.

Blame Game 6.1/10

Mike Dean and Kanye team up for another song. John Legend gets a feature with Kanye which is sorta a duo that we never think we would see but we get it. Kanye is in his feelings here, a slower song. I think the song is too long, I think there were many opportunities to cut the song off and it would have been fine but it kept going.

Lost In The World 8.1/10

Great production by Kanye and Jeff! I really like this song and would agree that this song is very underrated. I think Kanye gets a chance at his true flow where he raps and doesn’t stop until someone else cuts him off. In this case it is Bon Iver on the hook. Beautiful song with a really good bounce.

Who Will Survive In America 7.0/10

The closing song on MBDTF, and we get a short one. Produced again by Kanye and Jeff and it is nothing more than an outro song. Kanye is getting his point across that when someone is in big shoes like him, how can you survive with all of the hate he is receiving.
